New Newspaper Article

Michi (Sander) was interviewed as an expert on plastic biodegradation for a newspaper article in the “Beobachter”. While new enzymes are discovered that can (partially) hydrolyse non-biodegradable polyesters (eg PET), it does not render these polyesters environmentally biodegradable nor does the discovery solve the plastic pollution problem. The best strategy is reduce, reuse, recycle and, for very specific applications, the use of biodegradable plastic (that are readily hydrolyzed by diverse enzymes in the environment).
