Katharina Sodnikar successfully defended her PhD thesis on ‘Sorption, transport and stability of double-stranded ribonucleic acids and deoxyribonucleic acids in model systems’. Her work on the fate of nucleic acids involved studying the adsorption of nucleic acids to iron oxides and the effect of nucleic acid adsorption on their biodegradation in agricultural soils.

The PhD defense was done in a hybrid-mode with most of the group members and family/friends present in person and with a lot of people also joining via zoom. The external examiner Stephan Kraemer joined via zoom and the committee and Kathi even took a picture together.
