Improving Singlet oxygen quantum yield measurements of natural samples

Rachele Ossola has recently published a comprehensive review on apparent singlet oxygen quantum yields of environmental samples, describing experimental approaches and literature results from 1977 until March 2020. The review highlights common experimental errors at the origin of a systematic lack of reproducibility in apparent singlet oxygen quantum yields (particularly for measurements performed with xenon lamps) and provides experimental recommendations for future studies. The article is supplemented with a curated database of more than 850 quantum yield values of natural samples and aggregates the best available values for Suwannee River and Pony Lake isolates.
